Kelsey + Steven’s Windmill Winery Wedding | Florence, AZ Wedding Photographer

I absolutely love the Windmill Winery in Florence, AZ!  It’s beautiful, well-run, and everything you need is right there.  You don’t have to walk long distances to get to the good spots or wait for a golf cart (which has driven many a wedding off schedule).  It makes the wedding day simple, straight forward, and beautiful!
So, when Kelsey and Steven told me they were getting married at the Windmill Winery Lake House, I was excited to shoot there once again.  AND it didn’t disappoint.  Even despite some rain, it was a wonderful wedding day, and Karen Duram (who coordinates wedding days for the Winery) did an amazing job of keep everything running smoothly.  I hope you enjoy this Lake House Wedding from the one and only Windmill Winery.

I asked Kelsey to tell me a little bit about Steven, and here’s what she had to say:
“We first met through a mutual friend that we worked with. We both worked at Safeway while in college. We met when I was 18 years old and Steven was 19. I feel as if us meeting was meant to be, we both worked at Safeway that was further away from campus versus the one within walking distance of the school.”

“Our first date was at the lava tubes in Flagstaff, Arizona. It was night time, and it was the first time we hung out together without our mutual friend. I do remember walking down into lava tubes and him extending out his hand to help me down. This was my favorite part because I got to hold his hand.”“One of my favorite dates was when Steven surprised me with show tickets to Chicago. I love musicals, this was such a great night!”The most attractive things about Steven are “His blue/green eyes.”
“One of my favorite memories is when he proposed on our 8-year anniversary with rose petals and planned a trip to Sedona for a few days to celebrate.” “Another favorite memory was when we went on our first trip together to Disneyland. We were really young and on such a tight budget, but we had an amazing time and have some funny stories that we love to share.”
“On our 1 year anniversary, he booked a room at nice resort and set up a professional massage at the Phoenician.  The massage was great, and I really enjoyed spending the whole day by the pool with him.”“I love his ability to be goofy and bring laughter in any situation.” (Which made a huge difference on this rainy wedding day.)“He takes care of me every day in some way, whether it is picking up dinner when I am tired or going to work out with me for support even though he may not want to. He will watch my shows and movies with me, even if he is not interested. He does the little things every day.” “I respect him for how ridiculously intelligent he is and his drive to continue his education while working full time. I know he is pushing to be the best man he can be and to provide an even better future for us.” “He impressed me with how detailed and sweet his proposal was. And…. He didn’t stop there. He planned a trip, made dinner reservations at a fancy restaurant, booked me a massage, and booked a hotel in my favorite part of Sedona-Oak Creek Canyon. I loved getting to spend that couple time together away from our busy lives, celebrating our next step in our journey together. He made the moment magical.”“I am excited to marry him because he is my best friend and soulmate. I am excited to continue to wake up next to him every day, make new memories, travel to new places, and to start a family.”“I am the lucky one this relationship because he is the best person I have ever met, and I get to marry him! I am truly blessed.”I asked Steven to tell me a little bit about Kelsey, and here’s what he had to say:

“I first saw her while working at Safeway in Flagstaff, and I remember thinking she was so beautiful… I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her, and I remember being so nervous when we first spoke to each other.”

(During the ring exchange, a whole flock of birds launched themselves up into the air over the ceremony site.  The wedding guests gasped at the timing, since it happened right at that special place in the ceremony.  It was a magical moment–the kind of moment people are always trying to recreate at great expense. BUT this one happened naturally, almost as if the surrounding wildlife wanted to celebrate with the new Mr. and Mrs.  Real life is often better than you’d expect.)“We went to the lava tubes at about 1:00 in the morning, and then drove around all night and talked until probably 5:00 am. I remember being excited because the lava tubes are pretty rocky, and very dark, so it gave me an excuse to hold her hand a lot!”“My favorite date was probably our one year anniversary. We stayed at a very nice hotel in Scottsdale, and the next day we went to the Phoenician, where I got Kelsey a massage. We were so young and out of place that it was a bit awkward, but we were too young to care too much! After her massage we laid out by the pool for hours. We ended up swimming in the pool with some ducks and geese, and we chased them while all the “fancy” people looked on in disgust. Afterwards, Kelsey took me to a Diamondbacks game, and we sat really close to the field. It was a great two-day date.”“There are so many beautiful things about Kelsey that I can’t name just one. Her eyes, her voice, and her smile are definitely at the top of the list though.”
“We went to Disneyland when we were very young (she was 19 and I was 20). We hardly slept because we drove all night to get to a fancy hotel in San Diego and didn’t arrive until probably 4:30 in the morning. We then woke up at 7:30 and drove up to Anaheim and went to Disneyland all day that day. Afterwards, we went back to our hotel around midnight, and I made her a Turkey sandwich for a late night snack. She promptly fell asleep with the Turkey sandwich on her chest because she was so tired!”
“Another favorite memory of mine was when we went to Washington together a few years ago for my sister’s wedding. Our family went for an entire week to make a vacation out of it, and we ended up doing a few extra things like a whale watching boat trip where we saw Orcas. We also went to Pike’s Market Place and the Space Needle. It was a great trip, and one of the first times that we traveled really far together.”“She doesn’t surprise me terribly often because she is such a calculating person. She does surprise me with very nice presents and things like that, but she is too OCD to do anything too spontaneous!”
“The quirk that I really love is how she always feels obliged to speak with her hands. She can’t tell any story without the use of her hands, and it cracks me up every time!”“The nicest thing that she has ever done for me is believing in me. Even when I didn’t believe in myself, she was always there to reassure me that I can do anything that I put my mind to. I would not be as successful as I am today, or as confident of a person if it weren’t for her, and I am truly grateful of her for that.”
“The personality trait that I admire the most is the strong-willed drive that she has. She is such a strong person that is capable of anything, and I have really tried to emulate that trait of hers. She doesn’t let things get her down, or get in the way of what she wants out of life, and you don’t see that too often.”
“There wasn’t one epiphany of a moment where I knew she was the one. It was more of just this realization over time that I couldn’t imagine myself with anyone else. I don’t think I could ever get along with someone so well, or have such a strong bond and connection with any one else.”

“I am most excited to marry her because I know that she is going to be an amazing mother, and we are going to have a hell of a life together. We are just now coming into our own, and we are going to have many adventures and stories for many years!”

Steven says he’s the lucky one “Because she is awesome! I get to have meaningful, thought-provoking conversations and share my life with a beautiful woman, who has an amazing personality; how could I not be the lucky one!”
