Alyson + Evan’s Airport Engagement Session | Denver Engagement Session

I asked Evan to share a little bit about Alyson, and here’s what he had to say:

“Our first hike (her first ever) – I had told her we’d be doing a light hike, but forgetting that prior to our meeting she had never gone hiking, nor spent much time in the mountains, I didn’t tell her what she should wear. She first came out with these fashionable sandals which had no place on a trail. So, I told her she needed to go back in and grab other shoes. She gave me this look of annoyance, because she wanted to wear footwear that was more appealing than running shoes. She came back out of the house with the proper shoes in her hands, but the sandals still on her feet – she wanted to wear the less attractive shoes for as little as possible. We get to the trailhead and get started and pretty quickly I realize she’s struggling with the hill. I stop and suggest we take a break, but she insists we keep going and she soldiered on. At the time I thought she refused to stop to impress me, but I now believe this was my first introduction to her character. She doesn’t stop; she doesn’t accept defeat. Although, it’s still pretty likely she wanted to impress me too. We were working our way back – going far further than her body would have let her go – she started to become more and more frustrated. She took short breaks, gasping for air, then continued on despite her feet and legs killing her. Just to make it worse, a thunderstorm rolled in and we were caught in the rain. I wasn’t aware of it at the time, but she had just spent hours the day before at the salon, and the rain made the time/money spent at the salon a total waste. She was noticeably peeved by this, but she wouldn’t complain. We took cover under a tree, where I held her, since she was cold and shivering. The storm cleared and we eventually got back to the car. She immediately changed back into her sandals and it was obvious that she didn’t have much fun during her first hike; she suggested we go again sometime soon. The next time we went, it still wasn’t easy for her, but she was prepared and I think managed to actually have fun. Although, the only reason she agreed to do it, was because I enjoyed it.denver-engagement-session-airplane-adventure-airport-plane-broomfield-colorado-wedding-photographer-2 denver-engagement-session-airplane-adventure-airport-plane-broomfield-colorado-wedding-photographer-3

He says the most beautiful thing about Alyson is “The special smile she only shares with me.”

His favorite memory is their “First time at the range – She had never gone shooting before, and I wanted to share one of my favorite things. I took her to the pistol range for the first time. She was apprehensive at first, but she was an excellent student – as she’s always been. With some light coaching, she very quickly improved her precision with each shot and with each shot, her smile became bigger and bigger. Now it’s one of our favorite things to do together.”

One of her favorite memories is “Our first time camping together – We went to Moab, Utah. This was an interesting trip for me, it was my first, and I didn’t feel like “roughing it”, so we went “glamping.” He took care of all the arrangements; he picked up a 10-person tent, a queen mattress, gave me his 0° F mummy bag that he uses for winter camping (I’m always cold, so despite it being 40° F at night, it felt perfect). We found this perfect little camping spot in a canyon, next to the river, and just outside of town. We slept with the tent open, with an ocean of stars over us. It was just so romantic – not to mention, the best sleep I’ve had in my life (I like sleep!).”denver-engagement-session-airplane-adventure-airport-plane-broomfield-colorado-wedding-photographer-12denver-engagement-session-airplane-adventure-airport-plane-broomfield-colorado-wedding-photographer-13 denver-engagement-session-airplane-adventure-airport-plane-broomfield-colorado-wedding-photographer-15denver-engagement-session-airplane-adventure-airport-plane-broomfield-colorado-wedding-photographer-16denver-engagement-session-airplane-adventure-airport-plane-broomfield-colorado-wedding-photographer-14“Our vacation to San Francisco, CA- It was our first time traveling by plane to a destination. We decided to stay for a couple of days in San Francisco, CA with Evan’s Aunt and Uncle. It was off to be a nice, simple trip, but it quickly became an adventure. His Aunt and Uncle were so nice and they let us borrow their car to do adventures on our own. We went to Santa Cruz and Big Sur, Saw the Redwoods at Muir Woods, Went to the Monterey Aquarium, saw coastal defense relics of WWII, and toured Alcatraz. I also experienced my first earthquake, which amazingly I slept through – despite me normally being a super-light sleeper. We went wine tasting in Napa Valley. I also watched him get sun burnt on the beach despite having sunscreen on and him hiding under an umbrella – a common theme with any trip to the beach, I’ve found. During the course of our adventures we got “lost” in Sausalito and stumbled upon an amazing little coffee shop – since then, I add fresh mint to all my coffee drinks – which is phenomenal! Throughout it all, I kept thinking to myself: “I wouldn’t want to do any of these adventures with anyone else in my life.”

“He literally has taken on an alternate personality, where he indulges my love of “mindless” TV and “girly” shows. From my obsession with Gray’s Anatomy, Crime Dramas, Say Yes to the Dress, Bridezillas, Mindy Project, New Girl, Scandal, Orange is the new Black, and every single Tyler Perry film. Most amazingly, he’s been keeping up with the Kardashians with me! Given his choice, we’d just watch documentaries and his shows, but he patiently watches my shows, because he knows that his shows put me to sleep (See, sleeping – it’s a common theme! I might have narcolepsy!).”

Alyson respects Even for “His persistence and determination – when I first met him, he was in a grueling program at Colorado School of Mines, pursuing his degree in Electrical Engineering. He had recently, failed the previous semester, but was determined to get through it.  Despite experiencing many more setbacks along the way, he made it through! There were countless nights, where he didn’t even come to bed due to the amount of homework and studying he had to put in. Sometimes he wouldn’t even sleep for days. Even though he had at one point worked two different jobs and did school full time, he always made sure to take the time for us and give me what I needed from him. We spent a lot of time apart early on, me spending my first year away at college in New York and Nebraska. He also made sure to make the time for me even when he had his summer internship in Alabama and when he started his career, where he spent close to 9 months in Texas. It wasn’t easy, and I was often upset that he was gone, but he did everything he could to remind me that I was there in his heart, even when he was working 80+ hours per week. This has built a strong foundation for our relationship. In our 8 years of being together, we’ve spent nearly 2 years apart, but we’ve stood the test of distance, stress, lack of quality-time together, and the regular strain of a relationship and life!”
