Oh the Colorado Mountains! The views, the trees, light! Everything about this place is perfect!
I had the privilege of photographing Jourdan and Matt’s engagement photos on Lookout Mountain in Golden, CO. Golden is to the west of Denver, CO and is part of the Denver metro area. This amazing spot overlooks the mountains on one side and the city of Denver on the other, and we took advantage of both. We enjoyed the sunsoaked pines and distant views. I even climbed up a steep mountain side to get the right shot and ended up slide (not so gracefully) on the way back down.
Then, as the sun sunk below the tops of the mountains, we took after-dark photos on the other side of the mountain with the city lights in the background. Please give me an excuse to come back here!
I asked Jourdan to share a little bit about Matt. Here’s what she had to say:
“Matt and I were friends for a long time before we went on our first date. We went to dinner one night at a brewhouse and shared a pitcher of beer. We had just graduated from Indiana University and we were both uncertain about where the future would take us, but we knew that we wanted to experience it together.”
The most attractive thing about Matt is “The way he carries himself, his smile, and his eyes. ”
“He makes the bed because he knows that I like getting into a made bed, and he tells me I’m beautiful every day, even when I’m not wearing any makeup and have sweats on.”
“I respect that he always listens to the opinions of others and even if he doesn’t agree with them, he shows respect and kindness. I also respect that he is always looking for ways to use his talents and ideas to improve the lives of others.”
When he proposed: “It was just a Saturday, running errands and getting some things done. I came home to a trail of roses leading into the living room and on the coffee table he had spelled out MARRY ME? in candles. He came out of the other room, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He was so excited he accidentally broke the ring box. It was a perfect moment that I will cherish forever.
Jourdan says she’s the lucky one in this relationship because “He is unfailingly generous to everyone, he is compassionate, patient and above all, he loves me and finds the best in me every single day. Being in this relationship has made me a better person and I am lucky to be loved by such a good man.”
I asked Matt to share a little bit about Jourdan. Here’s what he had to say:
For my 23rd birthday, Jourdan surprised me with a trip to Vegas and then surprised me again when a big group of friends were waiting for us at the airport to join in on the Vegas birthday party. This surprise was capped off with a Hummer Limo picking us up from the airport with some bottles of champagne ready to get the weekend started.
Jourdan already shared our first date so I’ll share one of our most memorable dates…Jourdan and I went to Winking Lizard Tavern in Columbus, OH on a weeknight evening to discuss our future together. Over wings and beer, we had come to the decision that we would go on an adventure together and move to Denver. At that moment, this was the biggest decision we made together during our relationship.
I asked Matt when he knew she was the one, and he said, “There was never a specific moment, but over time as I realized more and more that I don’t want to spend time apart and then just getting excited to simply see her after a long day of work just made me realize that she’s my best friend and I don’t want to be without her for the rest of my life.”
“She’s got a beautiful mind. I love having conversations with her about intellectual topics and always want to know what her opinions are. I also have to mention that I could stare into her gorgeous eyes all day.”
He says that the nicest thing she ever did for him was say “yes.”
“Take one look at Jourdan and it’s obvious that I’m the lucky one.”
